Google visited the London School of Science and Technology (LSST) to speak with students about Google careers, values management and strategic direction.

Elijah Lawal, Google’s UK & IE Communications Manager, discussed his role in managing the ‘voice’ of Google and opened up the floor to take numerous questions from LSST’s students. Elijah used the opportunity to commend LSST’s students for their strong debating skills and added: ‘Google seeks people who are, first and foremost, nice and are able to think of different ways of doing things.’

Santosh Bhandari, a final year BSc (Hons) Computing and Information Systems student, questioned Google on its future plans in relation to artificial intelligence: ‘I am confident that Google has set out viable and strategic plans for artificial intelligence integration with its products and services and is certainly an employer where staff development takes the spot light.’

Camelia Ioo, a Y1 FdA Business and Computing student, added: ‘Google has opened up my eyes about the many options for privacy settings and that data privacy for is of paramount importance to the company. There are still many problems on data hacking and associated crimes however.’

Ali Jafar Zaidi, LSST’s Marketing and Admissions Director, said: ‘Applying for a job at Google is not as complex as students may believe. After Elijah’s talk I feel that Google is a place where our students will be really happy to work. It is a place where you can think outside the box and this fits in with our students rather well.’

  1. Elijah was the nicest person I have met. He answered every question we asked him and made time for us. He is what make Google the company it is actually. I wish I could work for him one day and asked him this too when I was there.
