Statement for academic year 2020/21

We are continuing to closely monitor the situation around the COVID-19 Pandemic and how social distancing restrictions may affect the way we deliver our programmes for the academic year commencing in September 2020.

We are preparing a range of possible programme delivery scenarios to ensure that you continue to receive a high quality learning experience, delivered in line with the prevailing government public safety guidance.

Exactly how your classes will be delivered will be communicated as we approach the new term. This is so that we can continue to assess the situation and take the most suitable approach in gradually returning to normal delivery.

Presently, for Semester 1 we anticipate moving from online delivery to a blended-learning experience that incorporates both online and on-campus lessons, with students attending both on a rotational basis. This will ensure that we can manage the occupancy of our learning facilities in line with any restrictions which may remain in force.

If social distancing restrictions should change during Semester 1, we will aim to be as flexible as possible in adapting to any new guidelines and managing access to our learning facilities in a responsible and safe way.

We hope to transition fully to on-campus teaching from Semester 2 in January 2021 (in line with health and safety guidance at that time).

As we move towards restoring normal teaching conditions, we will be available to students who wish to discuss concerns about their personal circumstances and any risks they may face in returning to our learning facilities. If students are unable to attend on-campus sessions for any reason, full remote delivery will continue to be available to them.

Academic support, student administrative services and pastoral care will be available from 9 AM to 9 PM Mondays to Thursdays and 9 AM to 5 PM on Fridays, both face-to-face (ensuring appropriate social distancing is maintained), as well as online.

We will strive to ensure that disruption to our students’ experience is minimised. Our approach will mean that we do all we can to ensure that none of our students are academically disadvantaged in any way.


There will be scheduled face-to-face Induction to welcome new students to LSST – this will include information about complying with social distancing and staying safe on campus. For those students who are unable to travel or attend our campuses, we will be making all face-to-face sessions available online.

Induction activities are scheduled for the following dates:

Students on programmes leading to awards from the University of West London or Buckinghamshire New University;

Induction week commences: 21/09/2020

Students on programmes leading to awards from London Metropolitan University;

Induction week commences: 05/10/2020

Semester Dates

Semester 1 of the 2020/2021 Academic Year will commence in line with the term dates of your awarding body:

University of West London – classes start week commencing 05/10/2020

London Metropolitan University – classes start week commencing 12/10/2020

Buckinghamshire New University – classes start week commencing 28/09/2020

Curriculum and assessment

Our curriculum will be adapted to enable students to succeed and meet all of the learning outcomes of their programme, regardless of whether they are studying on campus or remotely (for example, exams or presentations). If any modification is needed this will be coordinated with the APLTs.


Campuses are open with social distancing measures in place, ensuring we offer an environment that complies with all aspects of public health and advice to enable students access to our facilities. All student support services is available to students on campus and remotely.

Students are able to access IT Labs and library resources on campus where it is possible to observe government guidelines and where we are confident that we can protect the wellbeing of staff and students. Students will also be able to access library resources online.

Social life

Our Students’ Union (SU) works diligently to maintain a virtual Students’ Union space on Facebook as well as to hold events, run campaigns, discuss life in quarantine and provide each other with useful resources.
