The London School of Science and Technology were delighted to have our second external speaker to come to college this semester to talk to students.

Today’s speaker was Mina Kakaiya, a freelance Wellbeing Consultant, Trainer and Mindfulness practitioner, with a background in social work and over 20 years’ experience of working across mental health, NHS, Charity and social care sector developing and designing a wide range of mental health wellness recovery projects, peer support and training programmes. She is also a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) trainer and also offers bespoke Mindfulness sessions, Peer Support, Mental Health Awareness, Stress Management and Diversity and Equality training sessions and workshops across health, social care and charity organisations. Mina also has a Masters in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and a passion for promoting awareness of inner wellbeing towards personal transformation.

Mina gave an excellent talk on the common difficulties that students face in an educational setting particularly on the stresses and problems faced by mature students with work, family and other commitments.

Mina gave advice and suggestions on coping strategies and how to take a positive view on the changes encountered when students enter Higher Education after a break from studies and education in general.

Mina explained how everyone is individual and each has their own experience and life stories and how each individual must deal with any past influences, good or bad, how to use these experiences but to focus on the future and the new day and their new situations.

The result was an excellent talk which the students enjoyed and learned much from.

The student feedback has been excellent and the college look forward to another visit from Mina and another excellent talk.

Mina is also proactive in her relationship with the college and through her work with Healthwatch and Mind in accepting students on Work Placements.
