It would be wrong to use the old variables only and ignore the new variables which could be even more important. The UK always re-adjusts itself to changes(new variables) to stay on top so that when changes occur, it is like nothing has happened. The whole world is progressive where some countries are playing catch up and others are coming up with innovations to still be in the leading group.
