University of Edinburgh Bestows Honorary Fellowship upon LSST Elephant and Castle Lecturer Dr Dhaneswar Bhoi

Dr Dhaneswar Bhoi, a distinguished LSST Elephant and Castle lecturer and author specialising in sociology, psychology, and research methods has been conferred with the esteemed title of ‘Honorary Fellow’ by the University of Edinburgh to acknowledge his exceptional research contributions and academic achievements. 

 

Syed Rizvi, Academic Dean of LSST Elephant and Castle and Dean of Learning & Teaching, said: ‘Dr Bhoi’s scholarly endeavours extend beyond the LSST classroom, with groundbreaking research conducted during his post-doctoral tenure at the University of Edinburgh. Additionally, Dr Bhoi’s seminal work, ‘Caste in Everyday Life: Experience and Affect in Indian Society,’ published by Palgrave Macmillan, has garnered him global acclaim for insights into sociocultural dynamics.’ 

Mr Ali Jafar Zaidi, LSST’s Deputy CEO, added: ‘LSST extends its heartfelt appreciation to Dr Bhoi for his invaluable contributions to teaching, research, and the enhancement of the institution’s external standing. His dedication and impactful work have left an indelible mark on our students and academic community, embodying the spirit of excellence and scholarly pursuit.’ 

‘The University of Edinburgh’s decision to confer the title of ‘Honorary Fellow’ upon Dr. Bhoi serves as a testament to his outstanding excellence and significant contributions to the field of Social Science, particularly Sociology. This prestigious honour not only acknowledges his scholarly achievements but also paves the way for future research collaborations with the University of Edinburgh.’ 

A prolific academician, Dr Bhoi’s scholarly contributions also encompass over 35 published articles, 75 research papers presented at international conferences, and numerous keynote addresses delivered worldwide. His involvement as an associate editor for the ‘Journal of the World Universities Forum’ and as a reviewer for several academic journals underscores his commitment to advancing scholarly discourse.   

In addition to his scholarly pursuits, Dr. Bhoi actively engages with academic associations such as the “Education, Community & Sustainability Research Group” at the University of Edinburgh, and holds memberships in esteemed organisations including the ‘International Sociological Association,’ ‘Sociology of Education,’ ‘Social Psychology’ in Madrid and the ‘British Association for South Asian Studies’ in London.
