Residents, students and job seekers gathered at LSST’s Birmingham Campus for a successful Community Recruitment Event, hosted in partnership with Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (BSMHFT). The event connected individuals with exciting careers in mental health and community support services.

The event brought together NHS recruitment teams and members of the local community to explore a range of opportunities, including in-demand Support Time Recovery Worker and Peer Support Worker roles. Attendees had the opportunity to learn more about the positions available, gain insights into the application process and discover how their skills and lived experiences could contribute to improving the wellbeing of others.

Mr Ali Jafar Zaidi, LSST’s CEO, said: “This excellent event reflected the shared commitment of LSST and BSMHFT to widening access to employment opportunities, advancing social mobility, and strengthening community engagement across Birmingham. By working collaboratively, we are helping to create meaningful pathways into rewarding careers while supporting the long-term development and prosperity of our local communities.”

Samina Shafieq, Careers and Employability HE and Programme Manager FE at LSST, who coordinated the event, said:

“We were all delighted to welcome BSMHFT to LSST Birmingham and to see such strong engagement from members of the local community. The event demonstrated the power of collaboration between education and healthcare organisations to propel career options for our students.”

She added:

“Many attendees were encouraged to discover that compassion, resilience and lived experience are highly valued within these roles. It was inspiring to see individuals exploring opportunities to make a positive difference in the lives of others while also developing fulfilling careers for themselves.”

Mr Mohsin Riaz, Dean at LSST Birmingham, said:

“At LSST, we are committed to serving not only our students but also the wider communities in which we operate. Hosting events such as this reinforces our mission to create opportunities, build aspiration and support economic and social development.”

Representatives from BSMHFT engaged with attendees throughout the event, offering guidance on career opportunities, answering questions about recruitment pathways and highlighting the value of building a workforce that reflects the diversity of Birmingham’s communities.

The recruitment event forms part of LSST’s ongoing commitment to enhancing employability, supporting local partnerships and creating opportunities that enable individuals to contribute positively to society while pursuing meaningful and life-changing careers.
