Events

you can see our fully updated events calendar for the whole year via Handshake (https://joinhandshake.co.uk/)

At LSST we have events throughout the academic year from visits to employers, guest speakers, careers fairs and much more. Take a look below at some of our best and biggest events over the past year.

Careers Fairs

Jobs fairs are a regular occurrence at LSST happening in October/November and again in February/March. We aim to bring in a wide variety of employers and have something for everyone. At recent events we’ve hosted Leonardo Hotels, RSM UK, Protocol Education, Metropolitan Police, Marks & Spencer, National Careers Service, Barclays, Brent Council, the NHS and many more companies looking to hire our students.

Guest Speakers

We have many guest speakers at LSST covering topics such as marketing, entrepreneurship, getting into the NHS, jobs in the charity sector, jobs in policing, CV and cover letter advice and many more from professionals in the field to enhance your learning and allowing you to network externally. All of our campuses receive similar guest speakers so that all of our students get a great learning experience.

Employer Visits

Employer visits are a new part of the careers service events offering but in 2024 they are proving to be a hit already. 28 students took a tour of Amazon and got to take part in a Q&A with their design and engineering team. We also had a trip to NCMT to take part in their open day, network with professionals and see their machines in action. These trips will become more frequent in the years ahead as we want all of our students to be able to get out and see the professional workplace while being able to further network.

How do I as a student get involved?

The easiest way to find out about the events going on is to speak to your careers officer but we will be posting all of our events to Handshake where you’ll be able to register for them. You should also see posters up around the campuses advertising what’s on each month so do make the effort to come if you can!

Employers

Here at LSST we are working with many employers across the UK to help them deliver on DEI targets and decrease their need for agency workers by eliminating their staff shortages. We mainly run business management and non-clinical health courses but our student’s interests and goals vary widely outside of the traditional pathways you might think of for these degrees.

Opportunities to get involved with us:

Free recruitment: If you are on Handshake (https://joinhandshake.co.uk/) already, please drop us a line at careers@lsst.ac and we’d be happy to approve your jobs for our student’s visibility. If you are not currently using the Handshake careers platform, you can get started by reaching out to our team on the email above. Handshake is a completely free platform for employers to post their vacancies and interact with students and Universities. Whatever opportunities you have on offer, we would like to invite you to join us on the platform, completely free of charge today!

On campus events: Alongside our virtual offering we have regular jobs fairs (October – November and March – April) at each of our campuses Luton, Birmingham and London. There is no charge to exhibit at these events and we welcome all organisations big or small as long as you have excellent opportunities for our students. We also like to welcome employers on an exclusive basis, allowing you to have the attention of our student base in a lecture-style event. Email careers@lsst.ac if you wish to attend any of these.

In the curriculum: Some of our modules throughout our curriculum benefit greatly from the influence of outside professional voices. We like to invite professionals from a wide variety of sectors to come in and expel their wisdom to our students. If you think you might be able to offer insights into your sector or specific area of expertise and want to enrich our students learning, reach out to careers@lsst.ac.

Campus Advisory Boards: We have Careers Advisory Boards at each of our campuses consisting of 8 – 10 individuals who have considerable experience in recruitment, careers, skills or other areas and or have excellent local networks. These boards come together twice per year to discuss LSST career offerings, giving advice on the local labour market and coming up with new innovative ways we can deliver excellent careers support to our students. It isn’t always the case but there are sometimes openings on the boards so if you are interested in supporting us in this manner, please email careers@lsst.ac.
