Renata Oliveira Carvalho, LSST’s former SU President and current Business Lecturer, has been honoured by her colleagues with a giant 45-foot poster of her graduation, on the side of one of its campuses, for her inspiring contributions to student life online and on campus.
Mr Ali Jafar Zaidi, LSST’s Marketing and Admissions Director, who spearheaded the project, said: ‘Renata embodies all things student-case-study. Her remarkable journey from student to SU President to Business Lecturer – all while at LSST – is an absolute inspiration to our students, staff and alumni.’
‘It is obvious why her graduation photo, one of the proudest moments of her life, became the face of our successful Graduate Trainee Lecturer Scheme. It has become a symbolic point of inspiration for everyone,’ added Irina Barariu, LSST’s current SU President. ‘I wanted to use its pleasing allegory more widely. Then I remembered that the Luting Hastings campus was a former BBC building – and as Renata engaged widely with the BBC – we felt this would be a perfect tribute to her. We all thank Renata for being such a warm and bright and happy person. As her successor, Renata remains my visionary mentor.’
Renata, overcome with emotion, told her colleagues: ‘I am really humbled to be recognised in this heart-warming way. Through your illuminated coaching and support, I am very proud of everything I have been able to accomplish at LSST – my home – as a student, SU President and now as member of academic staff. Everyone here is awesome and inspires me every day and that is what the LSST family is all about.’
