“Careers engagement of this kind is central to LSST’s mission to translate academic excellence into meaningful professional opportunity,” said Mr Ali Jafar Zaidi, CEO of LSST. “By convening employers on campus and facilitating sustained dialogue, we equip our students with both the confidence and the connections to convert aspiration into achievement. I thank our recruitment partners for their investment in our students’ futures.”
“LSST’s commitment to orchestrating employer engagement at scale is part of a broader institutional strategy to translate campus activity into measurable outcomes,” said Mr Mohsin Riaz, Dean of LSST Birmingham. “Our careers events have delivered abundant live roles and on-the-day interviews for LSST Birmingham students”.
Harv Mehmi, LSST’s Regional Careers and Employability Officer, coordinated two career fairs: the Health and Social Sciences Careers Fair (14 October 2025) and the Business and Management Careers Fair (30 October 2025).

Inspiring student choices and careers
The Health and Social Sciences Careers Fair welcomed representatives from Birmingham Mind, NSPCC, Ways for Wellbeing, National Careers Service and University Hospitals Birmingham. LSST Birmingham students expressed keen interest in mental health, psychology, nursing and social work. In turn, employers offered practical information on volunteering, training routes and recruitment — equipping students with many actionable options for entering the sector.
“I had the pleasure of attending the Health Careers Fair at LSST Birmingham. After 45 years in the industry, it was genuinely encouraging to see so many students enthusiastic about pursuing careers in health and social care,” said Dr Wendy Wigley, Head of Student Lifecycle and Partnerships Manager. “Their interest and engagement were a welcome reminder of the continued importance of these professions. A sincere thank you to all the industry representatives — including those from charities and recruitment sectors — who gave their time and connected with students throughout the event. Your contributions were greatly appreciated.”
“Students responded positively to the careers fair, noting that the employers who attended were engaging, approachable and provided valuable insights into their industries. Many students appreciated the opportunity to speak directly with representatives and found the information and advice they received helpful for exploring potential career paths,” said Lakeisha Elwell, Health Academic Support Team Lead, LSST Birmingham.
“The employer engagement was a highlight of the fair and I noticed how approachable and insightful the interactions were — employers took time to give practical advice,” said Elena Mitroi, a LSST Birmingham Student Ambassador. “This not only boosted student confidence but also made the event feel genuinely supportive and actionable,”
The Business and Management Careers Fair brought together employers from across the spectrum, including Get Into Teaching (GOV.UK), WM Jobs, Graduate Career Solutions, Marstons, Bless Start, SISK, Transport for West Midlands, National Careers Service and the Dawson Group. LSST Birmingham students engaged with employers on self-employment, graduate routes and sector-specific roles in construction, hospitality, education and the public sector.
“Our careers fairs were designed to help students take ownership of their career journeys – and the student energy was incredible. Seeing our students engage so confidently with employers from such varied sectors was deeply rewarding. These events prove that when students have access to the right networks and opportunities, their ambition quickly turns into action,” added Harv Mehmi, Regional Careers & Employability Officer.
LSST Birmingham thanks its employer partners for their time and expertise; their contribution accelerates student readiness for the workplace and materially improves students’ prospects in the graduate labour market.
