This webpage provides a comprehensive overview of the School’s policies and procedures on student harassment and sexual misconduct, along with details of the support available. It serves as the single, authoritative source of information required under the Office for Students' registration condition E6.
What is Harassment and Sexual Misconduct?
Harassment
Unlawful harassment is any unwanted behaviour related to a protected characteristic that either violates a person’s dignity or creates an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating, or offensive environment. The impact of the behaviour - rather than the intention behind it - is key in determining whether harassment has occurred. It may be a single incident or a series of events.
Harassment may be of a sexual nature (sexual harassment) or relate to characteristics protected under the law, such as age, disability, gender reassignment, marital or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, race, sex, sexual orientation, religion, or belief.
Sexual Misconduct
Sexual misconduct is a form of harassment and refers to any unacceptable behaviour of a sexual nature. This includes, but is not limited to:
Sexual harassment
Sexual violence or assault
Intimate partner violence
Grooming
Coercion or bullying with sexual elements
Sexual invitations, comments, or demands
Unwanted non-verbal communication (e.g. gestures, staring)
Creating uncomfortable or intimidating sexualised environments
Promising academic, professional, or personal benefits in exchange for sexual access
Sexual misconduct raises serious concerns around consent, power imbalance, and equal access to education, opportunities, and career progression.
It can involve behaviours covered under the following laws and guidance:
Sexual harassment (Section 26(2), Equality Act 2010)
Harassment (Section 1, Protection from Harassment Act 1997)
Sexual assault and rape (Sexual Offences Act 2003)
Unwanted physical sexual advances (Equality and Human Rights Commission, Sexual harassment and the law, 2017)
Intimidation or coercion involving sexual favours (EHRC, 2017)
Sharing explicit images or videos without consent (Criminal Justice and Courts Act 2015)

Understanding the Process
Reporting Sexual Misconduct and Accessing Support
If you or another student has been affected by sexual misconduct, please contact Student Services as soon as possible. The School's disciplinary process for sexual misconduct is initially overseen by the Student Support Team and Head of Lifecycle, and our team is here to offer support and help move any investigation forward.
After your initial contact, support will be offered by the Wellbeing Team, and your case will be referred for further action.

Effective from 1st August 2025, LSST strictly prohibits close personal or intimate relationships between staff and students. This policy aims to maintain professional boundaries, uphold academic integrity, and ensure a safe and respectful learning environment for all.
Personal Relationships at Work Policy
LSST will not use non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) in relation to complaints of sexual harassment, abuse, misconduct or other forms of harassment and bullying.
In addition, since September 2024 the Office for Students has prohibited from using NDAs in relation to student allegations of harassment and sexual misconduct.
This means the providers must not prevent or restrict students from disclosing information.
31 July 2025
LSST is introducing an important update to its Staff-Student Relationships Policy, effective 1st August 2025.
From this date, all close personal or intimate relationships between staff and students are strictly prohibited.
