Article Date | 10 June, 2024By Foteini Meleti , Career & Employability Coordinator, LSST Elephant and Castle campus
Elephant and Castle campus was buzzing with excitement as representatives from Barclays UK joined us for a transformative session with our students. This event was not just any ordinary gathering; it was a launchpad for our students’ dreams and ambitions.
Barclays UK unveiled a world of opportunities through their graduate schemes internships, and the innovative Barclays Eagle Labs. These initiatives are designed to provide our students with the skills and experiences they need to thrive in the professional world. The session was filled with insightful presentations and interactive discussions, giving our students a clear understanding of the pathways available to them.
One of the highlights of the event was the introduction of Barclays’ bespoke mentorship programmes. These programmes demonstrate Barclays’ commitment to providing personalised guidance and support to LSST students. Through these mentorship opportunities, students can receive tailored advice and insights from experienced professionals, helping them navigate their career paths with confidence.
During the session, students learned about various career prospects and growth opportunities at Barclays. They gained insights into the company’s culture and values, which are centered around respect, integrity, service, excellence, and stewardship. This understanding helps students align their career aspirations with the ethos of Barclays, ensuring a good fit for their professional development.
Students also had the unique opportunity to hear real-life experiences from Kristine Agraan, Justin Moore, and Yvonne Mcmillan. These speakers shared their personal career journeys, providing valuable lessons and inspiration. Kristine Agraan, a Customer Care Leader at Barclays, discussed her role and the importance of customer service in the banking industry. Justin Moore highlighted the diversity and inclusive culture at Barclays, sharing his experiences from various team events. Yvonne Mcmillan, a Corporate Relationship Manager, provided insights into relationship management and the importance of building strong client connections.
In addition to career insights, the event also covered aspects of business banking with Barclays. Students learned about the comprehensive support Barclays offers to businesses, including payment solutions, international trade support, and business growth coaching programmes. This knowledge is invaluable for students interested in entrepreneurship or business management, as it equips them with the understanding of how to leverage banking services to drive business success.
This event marks the beginning of an exciting new collaboration dedicated to empowering LSST students as they prepare to graduate and take on the professional world. We are thrilled to work with Barclays and look forward to future collaborations that will continue to benefit our students. Our heartfelt thanks go to Kristine Agraan, Justin Moore, and Yvonne Mcmillan for their invaluable time and insights. Their contributions made the event a resounding success and left a lasting impact on our students.
We are excited about the future and the opportunities that this collaboration with Barclays UK will bring. Stay tuned for more updates and events as we continue to work together to empower our students and help them achieve their dreams.
