LSST Birmingham Careers Fair Bridges Student Ambition with Top West Midlands Employers

LSST Birmingham has successfully brought together over 120 students from its Health and Business courses with leading employers and community organisations, represented on campus by 17 employer professionals.
The in-house career fair (14 October 2026) offered immediate pathways into live vacancies with organisations including Summerhill Services Limited (SSL), Mind (Birmingham), Compass Birmingham MHST, Sähëlï Hub, Flip Da Script CIC, Hope Inspired CIC, Catch22 and Go-Woman Alliance CIC.
Before the fair started, LSST Birmingham students undertook targeted career exploration, mock interview practice and bespoke CV preparation. This structured scaffolding ensured 57% of attendees arrived with tailored employer-ready CVs, while 71% engaged in direct recruitment discussions on the day.

“This event was about creating genuine tangible opportunities for our students,” said Samina Shafieq, Careers and Employability Lead and Programme Manager at LSST Birmingham. “From direct conversations with employers to the latest career advice, the fair provided clear routes into professional development.”
“Our data underlines the event’s direct impact,” added Samina Shafieq. “121 students engaged with 8 lead organisations, while our outreach established connections with 162 organisations – yielding 25 long-term partnership opportunities.”

“Crucially, 15 students secured immediate professional training registrations with Sähëlï Hub, 86% reported the event met or exceeded expectations – and we achieved a student satisfaction score of 4.3 out of 5,” continued Samina Shafieq.

“At LSST, our commitment extends far beyond the classroom,” said Charlie Tennant, Vice Principal at LSST. “We are dedicated to scaffolding our students’ transition into high-value graduate roles.”

“By bridging the gap between higher education and regional employers, we ensure our graduates possess the practical confidence and professional networks required to flourish,” added Charlie Tennant.

“Our priority at LSST Birmingham is to build an environment where student ambition meets real opportunity,” said Mohsin Riaz, Dean at LSST Birmingham. “The strong feedback from both employers and our students demonstrates the success of our local engagement work.”

“Welcoming healthcare, business and voluntary sector partners onto campus gives our students the chance to speak directly about their career goals,” added Mohsin Riaz. “We’re fully committed to building these relationships, so LSST Birmingham stays a key hub for local talent.”
“Our students have told the SU how much they valued this event,” said Aasifiek Moosa, LSST Student Union President. “Offering one-to-one interview prep, proactive CV help and direct face-to-face recruitment on campus shows that LSST Birmingham is genuinely committed to putting student careers first.”
