A remarkable group of LSST Aston students organised an inclusive cake baking day to help raise money for The British Red Cross. The event concentrated on raising awareness of the millions of people displaced across the world from the Ukraine crisis, Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan and those around the world seeking to escape persecution and violence.
Students baked their favourite cakes such as the panettone from Italy and the strudel from Germany to exemplify unity and diversity. Students also brought in containers for anyone fasting for Ramadan so they could eat the cakes later.
.
‘This event practically showed the sweetness of unity, diversity and companionship,’ said Irina Barariu, LSST’s Student Union President, who organised the event. ‘LSST Aston students impressed me with their amazing baking skills and they worked tirelessly to raise funds for the vital work of The British Red Cross.’
.
So far students have raised an impressive £157 and all student bakers received a certificate of participation and an LSST SU branded apron.
Mr Ali Jafar Zaidi, LSST’s Deputy CEO, added: ‘LSST’s students have repeatedly refused to ignore people in crisis and have continually supported people to cope with disasters and conflicts. This is one of the many great and ongoing initiatives spearheaded by our Student Union and they are all to be commended.’
